slightly out of commission
nothing happening with beta-testing here right now, because of health reasons:

lost in a daze
i am running totally behind today. i don’t even know where the entire day went; did i get up this late? i didn’t think so, but i don’t even remember. i have to start scanning whiz kid v1, but i still have the collage workbook on the scanner, and i don’t have a clear spot anywhere for debinding. *gnargh*.
must do before the day is over: write reply to sadieko on LJ re. what i would like from friends list over here. link to reply.
what i want from a theme here
xandria made a nice wishlist, and after surveying all the themes, i am making one too:
- flexible width of the content block (adjust to browser width), possibly flexible width of sidebars too; ideally choice between fixed and flexible for both independently. if fixed, specify size in pixels or percentage (or specify margin size).
- choice about what to do with content that might overflow such as large images (expand to fit, resize, scroll content block — i don’t think “overflow” and “cut it off” need to be options :)
- choosable position of “sidebars” (none, left, right, top, bottom)
- widget ready
- allows for custom header and page background graphics (stored external to the site), can set background to repeat/scroll/fixed
- an easy way to customize fonts and colour schemes (hex codes are ok, but a colour picker with instant preview would be even better)
- choice of how to display categories (=tags) (cloud, list, drop-down) (this is really WP internal)
- ranking of links and tags for display (alpha, reverse, individually weighted)(this is also WP internal but it does not work in my theme right now)
- separate styling options for the main page versus individual post pages versus static pages versus comment pages.
there are probably some more; i am not using my blog as intensively as some people use theirs. (frex i never use archives or calendar navigation so far because i’ve never kept a blog for any length of time.)
theme daisy rae gemini conks
when trying to view site after switching to theme over in sharemanga’s journal.
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare gravatar() (previously declared in /home/.sienna/yjadmin/yaoijournal.com/wp-content/mu-plugins/gravatar.php:17) in /home/.sienna/yjadmin/yaoijournal.com/wp-content/themes/daisyraegemini/gravatar.php on line 27
comment bug?
i just left a comment in gaminette’s journal, and it’s not showing up (not even on refresh). i tried to store it again, but wordpress clearly knows about it, it decided to delete the duplicate. maybe a syncing problem?
or maybe moderation is on, but it didn’t say anything. maybe it never says anything. i should turn it on here to see.

theme survey plan
WTF? where did the text go for this? it disappeared some time today. that’s … really odd. i don’t remember when i last saw it. but it was definitely here; stored and all.
i guess i am gonna start downloading the blog every few hours if this can happen to try and track what i was doing.
publish -> do you want to edit?
was that a bug just now? i wrote the post about being a bad beta-tester, and when i pressed “publish”, it came back with a message “are you sure you really want to edit this post yes/no”. when i clicked “yes”, it saved the post.
let’s try that again.
ETA: aha! i didn’t press the wrong button. it happens when i write a new post, add a category, and then press publish.
ETA2: this time it happened without me adding a new category, i just wrote, clicked the ticky next to YJ-meta category, and published.
it’s not a biggie, but it’s confusing.
i’m a bad, bad beta-tester
i might’ve got too many things going at once; time seems to be getting away from me. i should probably drop one of them. i don’t want to drop this one. i don’t want to drop drupal, because i am leaving livejournal, no matter what. and dropping the sniggler stuff feels *meh*; i might need help from those quarters, though the ones contributing right now are not techies.
maybe i need to be more disciplined about time management. especially since in 10 days or so i ought to start the big scan job for bliss.
so, testing at least 3 different things here today. since i have a community now, that should not be hard.
kludgy yet spiffy navbar trick
i’ve been pondering how to create pages that will NOT show up in the navbar up there. i knew there was a redirect plugin, but since i can’t install plugins here, that’s no good.
turns out this kludge works:
create a blank private page. it will not show in the navbar.
create any pages you want to also not show in the navbar, but have accessible for people, as children to this private page.
you can then put links to those pages in the sidebar; none of them will show up in the navbar. none of them will show up in the widget “Pages” either, you’ll have to add the links to blogroll or do it in some other way.
link order on sidebar
how to get the links on the sidebar to sort in the order i want them in, instead of alphabetically? i thought that the “rating” did that, and when i change that accordingly (lower rating -> higher placement) it does indeed work that way in wp-admin/link-manager.php — but it doesn’t display properly in my blog.
is there some other place i need to set that? the widget “Links” has no options. i think that’s the widget that controls this. but maybe because this is really the blogroll, and a special category, there is yet some other place?
or is this a theme problem? i do not want to debug CSS that i can’t change anyway though. alright; ignore for now, mark “unresolved”.
note: oh look, the admins are playing with a new avatar plugin. :) i’ll leave that empty space up there so i can see when they’ve gotten it to work. i like being on a site that’s a work in progress.
